The Overthinking Loop

Thinking harder is the strategy that stopped working.

You are good at analysis, and it is part of why you have the career you have. Anxiety takes that same strength and points it at problems that analysis cannot solve, how a colleague looked at you, what might happen in eight months, whether you are actually as capable as people assume.

The loop is self-sealing. Each pass gives a flicker of relief, which teaches your brain that the next pass is worth doing. Meanwhile sleep thins out, the body stays braced, and the people closest to you get the tired version of you.

From the outside nothing is wrong, which is its own problem, there is no obvious moment to say something, so most people wait until exhaustion makes the decision for them.

Does This Sound Familiar?

The specifics, not the symptom list

Open any line to see how I would think about it with you.

The 11pm review of everything you said today.

Rumination almost always feels productive in the moment, as though one more pass will resolve it. We work on catching the entry point rather than trying to win the argument inside your head.

How We Work On It

Skills first, so life gets more livable quickly. Then the beliefs underneath, so the relief holds.

Cognitive and behavioral work

CBT and DBT skills aimed at the loop itself: catching the entry point, reducing checking, and building tolerance for uncertainty.

Nervous system and mindfulness

Anxiety is a body event before it is a thought. We practice regulation you can use in a meeting or at 2am.

Depth work when it is needed

Where anxiety is rooted in older experience, IFS-informed parts work and EMDR address the source rather than the symptom.

The First Few Weeks

A rough arc, not a rigid protocol

Every person moves differently. This is the shape most anxiety work takes here.

  1. We identify the actual triggers, the loops that follow, and the strategies you already use, including the ones that help short-term and hurt long-term. You leave the first sessions with a clearer picture than most people have after years of managing alone.

Questions

Anxiety therapy, answered plainly

Anything not covered here is worth asking on the free 15-minute consult.

Is my anxiety serious enough for therapy?

People who ask that question are usually managing far more than they admit. If anxiety is shaping your sleep, your decisions, or how much of yourself shows up in your relationships, that is enough reason to work on it.

Will I have to talk about my childhood?

Only if it is relevant and only when you are ready. Plenty of good anxiety work stays firmly in the present. When history is clearly driving the pattern, we go there deliberately rather than by surprise.

How long does anxiety therapy take?

It depends on what is driving it and what else is happening in your life. I don't make any guarantees about timelines. What I can tell you is that we review progress out loud regularly so you are never wondering whether this is going anywhere.

Can we do this over video?

Yes. Anxiety work adapts well to telehealth, and I see clients across California Monday through Friday. In-person sessions are available at the San Diego office.

I have tried CBT before and it did not stick. Now what?

That is common with high-achieving clients, you can learn the technique intellectually and still be running the same pattern. We would look at what the anxiety is doing for you, and often bring in body-based work, parts work or EMDR alongside the skills.
