On Private Pay

Private pay keeps the work between the two of us. No diagnosis is required for a payer, and no one else sets session limits.

If out-of-network benefits matter to you, it is worth asking your plan what it reimburses for outpatient psychotherapy with a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am glad to provide the superbill.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The office is at 2560 First Ave, Suite 202, San Diego. For anything specific to your situation, the contact page is the fastest route.

Where is the office located?

2560 First Ave, Suite 202, San Diego, CA 92103, near West Maple and close to downtown. It is convenient to Hillcrest, downtown, North Park and South Park.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Secure video sessions run Monday through Friday for anyone physically located in California. There are also limited in-person slots on one Sunday a month.

Are you licensed outside California?

No. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California only, so you need to be physically in California at the time of each session.

Do you only work with anxiety?

No. Trauma and PTSD are my primary clinical specialty, and I also work with depression, relationship difficulties, stress and burnout, and dating concerns, with adults and couples.

What happens on the free consultation?

It is fifteen minutes by phone or video. You describe what is going on in your own words, I ask a few questions, and I tell you honestly how I would approach it and whether I am the right fit. There is no intake questionnaire and no obligation.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, Cigna. Otherwise the practice is private pay: I am not in network with other panels and do not bill them directly. For other plans I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement after two or more sessions, and whether your plan reimburses, and how much, is between you and your insurer.

What is a superbill?

An itemized receipt with the information most insurers require for out-of-network claims. You submit it to your plan yourself. I can provide one monthly on request.

What is the cancellation policy?

Twenty-four hours' notice is required, and the policy is firm. Sessions canceled with less notice are charged at the full fee. Your session time is reserved for you and cannot be filled at short notice.

How long are sessions and how often do we meet?

Standard sessions are about 50 minutes; 90-minute sessions are available and are often preferred for couples work and EMDR reprocessing. Most people start weekly and space sessions out as things steady.

How do I book?

Start with the free 15-minute consult using the button on this site, or send a short note through the contact page. Where possible, I prefer a quick phone conversation before the first session.

Free 15-Minute Consult

Not sure where to start? A conversation is a good place to begin.

The free 15-minute consult is a short, no-pressure call to hear what is going on and decide together, gently, whether working with me is the right fit.
