South Park
You moved somewhere quiet, and the noise turned out not to be the problem.
Fern Street, Grape Street, and the quieter craftsman blocks on the east side of Balboa Park. Families and people who moved here specifically for the calm.
Telehealth Monday through Friday, in person one Sunday a month

The Place
What it is actually like here
South Park sits on the east side of Balboa Park, below North Park, built around the small commercial corner where Fern Street and Grape Street meet. The rest of it is craftsman blocks, mature trees, and a pace that is noticeably slower than the neighborhoods on either side of it.
People choose it deliberately. Families who wanted a walkable street, couples who wanted more room than Hillcrest offers, professionals who wanted the park on one side and quiet on the other. The office is a short drive across or around the park.

Getting to the office
From Fern and Grape, the simplest route is across Balboa Park to the west side and then down to First Avenue and West Maple. It is a short drive outside of peak hours.
State Route 163 runs along the park and is the alternative if you are coming from the northern end of the neighborhood.
Street parking near the office is metered or time-limited on weekdays and easier on Sundays, which is when the monthly in-person day runs.
It is worth reading the schedule honestly before you book. Most of my work is telehealth, Monday through Friday. In-person sessions are limited to one Sunday a month at the Bankers Hill office, and those slots fill ahead of time.
Why People Write From Here
The pressures particular to this place
The people who write from these blocks have often already done the sensible things. They moved somewhere calmer, they made the schedule saner, they got the dog and the routine and the walkable street. And the thing they were trying to outrun came with them, which is disorienting in a way that a chaotic life never is.
A lot of it is family material. Parents of young children who love their kids and are running on four broken nights a week. Couples who agree about almost everything and have quietly stopped talking about the one thing they do not. The strain here is rarely dramatic and that is exactly why it goes unaddressed for years.
There is also the version that shows up in your forties: the life is built, the boxes are checked, and there is a flatness underneath it that does not respond to gratitude. That is not ingratitude and it is not a character problem. It is usually a sign that something got postponed a long time ago and never got picked back up.

For the low steady hum that survived the move to a quieter street.

For parenthood, a career shift, or the middle stretch where the plan runs out.

How far is the office from South Park?
A short drive across or around Balboa Park to 2560 First Ave, Suite 202 in Bankers Hill. Most people find it takes under fifteen minutes outside of peak traffic.
How often can I be seen in person?
In-person sessions are limited. I hold one Sunday a month at the Bankers Hill office, and those slots are booked ahead. Everything else runs by secure video, Monday through Friday. Most of my clients are telehealth clients from the first session onward, and the work is not a lesser version of the room.
Is telehealth as useful as sitting in the room?
For the work I do, yes, and for a lot of people it is more practical. Anxiety work, EMDR, and couples work all translate to video. What matters more than the format is whether you have a private hour and a door that closes. If you do not have that at home, we will talk about where else the hour could happen.
We have small children. Can we do couples sessions from home?
Yes, and many couples do. The requirement is a private hour behind a closed door with no one in earshot. If that is not possible at home, we will talk about other options before we start.
Do you work with individuals as well as couples?
Yes. A fair number of people start individually and later bring a partner in, or the reverse. Individual sessions are $210 and couples sessions are $225, with 90-minute options at $325 and $345.
